At our drop-in center, individuals facing homelessness, whether living on the streets, in hostel accommodations, or engaging in ‘sofa surfing,’ find a warm and welcoming environment. Here, they have access to essential resources and amenities crucial for survival and dignity. From nourishing hot meals and beverages to clothing, toiletries, and even sleeping bags, generously donated by the public, we ensure that basic needs are met.

Our dedication goes beyond just meeting basic needs. We recognise the importance of holistic support in helping individuals rebuild their lives. That’s why our center offers a range of recreational activities, including pool, table tennis, and gaming consoles, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

In addition to these activities, we host various special events and initiatives to uplift spirits and provide moments of joy and celebration. From periodic visits by hairdressers and chiropodists to monthly entertainment evenings featuring karaoke sessions, we strive to offer diverse experiences that cater to the varied needs and interests of our guests.

Christmas Dinner

One of our most cherished traditions is our multicultural Christmas dinner, where we provide not just nourishing meals but also a festive atmosphere that celebrates diversity. Each year, we distribute gift boxes containing essentials and treats, ensuring that every individual feels valued and remembered during the holiday season.

Moreover, we understand the importance of personal connections in times of both joy and sorrow. That’s why we maintain a birthday list for our guests, ensuring that each person receives a special cake and card on their birthday. Additionally, we offer unwavering emotional support during difficult times, attending funerals to provide solace and comfort to individuals and their families.

Our commitment to support extends beyond the walls of our center. We offer 24/7 telephone assistance, providing a lifeline during crises and emergencies. Furthermore, we actively engage in signposting individuals to other services and benefits, offering assistance with form completion, including those for benefits and asylum seekers, and even accompanying guests to interviews, ensuring that they receive the comprehensive support needed to navigate challenging circumstances and build a brighter future.

Behind our efforts is Liz Rocks, the Service Co-Ordinator, who leads a team of approximately 40 dedicated volunteers. Liz’s leadership and the commitment of our volunteers are fundamental to the success of BHS. Together, they ensure the smooth operation of our services, amplifying the impact of our work and ensuring that every vulnerable individual who walks through our doors is met with compassion, dignity, and unwavering support.
